after building the first permitted 3D printed home in america, robotics lab ICON presents america’s first series of 3D printed homes for sale in austin, texas. developer 3strands partners with the construction technology company to realize a series of two to four bedroom dwellings, designed by logan architecture, and ready for move-in by this summer. this next step in the evolution of home building marks the developer’s first multi-home project and seeks to revolutionize the way that typical american communities build their homes. to date, ICON has built two dozen 3D printed dwellings across central texas and in mexico — including a permitted home designed by logan architecture with support by bjarke ingels group /BIG — and this marks the first mainstream housing project for the startup.
construction technology company ICON and developer 3strands present this first series of 3D printed homes as the east 17th street residences in austin. the development comprises four unique and sustainably built homes designed by logan architecture to last longer than traditional building materials. flexible and functional plans include private yards, covered parking, an open plan organization, a vaulted master bedroom, and minimalist architectural aesthetic.
the first floor of these highly energy efficient homes are built with ICON’s 3D printing construction technology. the team makes use of resilient material that is stronger and longer-lasting than traditional building materials. the 3D printing technology ensures a safer, more resilient home that better withstands fire, flood, wind, and other natural disasters better than conventional homes, and can be built in a matter of weeks. 3strands co-founder and CEO gary o’dell comments: ‘ICON has delivered better homes at a better value across a variety of cost-centers than conventional construction, including materials, time to market, and labor. the east 17th st residences represent the future of home-building for the mass market and illustrate what is possible with this technology.’
